I have realized that I take a lot for granted. Whilst scanning the readings that we read for homework a second time, I am amazed with a feeling of guilt. When going over what it means to be a citizen, I realized that it does take a lot to become a citizen if you are not born in the place you want to stay. For Mothers especially it is hard to bring a child with them to their desired home, and many families get broken up because of it. It is very different for me to learn struggles within different countries regarding citizenship and belonging, because I have always been a citizen in the USA. But, when thinking about the subject of "belonging," everyone has a different story. People get excluded from groups all the time. In school, at work, at places where you want to feel wanted. I have, at least. It is very important to recognize yourself in these moments, and stay true to your cultural identity.
